User Agreement
How you agree to use the site and treat the people and machines on it. It applies together with the Terms of Service.
- Last updated 3 October 2026
1. What this is
The Terms of Service are the contract between you and the operator of this Studio Umbra server. This agreement is the practical part: the rules for what you do on the site, what you hand over by using each kind of feature, and what you are responsible for. By using the site you agree to it. "We" and "us" mean the operator.
2. Treat people decently
You must not use the site, including Shade, direct messages, boards, comments, shared whiteboards and anything you generate and share, to:
- harass, bully, threaten, stalk or abuse anyone, or encourage others to;
- post hateful content about people for who they are, or content that glorifies violence or self-harm;
- share or generate sexual content involving a child, in any form, real or imagined. This is never allowed, and we will report it where the law requires;
- share intimate images of anyone without their consent, including ones made or altered by AI;
- publish someone's private information, such as their address, documents or sign-in details;
- pretend to be someone you are not in order to deceive people, including by cloning or imitating a real person's voice, face or writing without their permission;
- send spam, chain messages, or unwanted bulk invitations.
3. Keep it lawful and safe
- No illegal content, and no use of the site to plan or carry out anything illegal.
- No malware, exploits or tricks aimed at this server, at other people's computers, or at the services it talks to. This includes trying to get past a role, a section limit, a rate limit, an approval or a tool restriction.
- No automated use that is not through the documented API with your own token, and no use that crowds out others, such as keeping the image or speech servers busy for hours without need. We may limit, queue or stop heavy use.
- No coming back after a ban or suspension on a new account, another address, a proxy or another device.
4. The content you bring
- Upload and share only what you have the right to. Do not post other people's copyrighted work, private data or secrets (including API keys and passwords) unless you are allowed to.
- Tell people when something was made by AI if they would reasonably want to know, and do not present generated content as a real recording, document or event to mislead anyone.
- You are responsible for what you post and what you ask a model to create. If you give someone else's content to a model, you are responsible for having the right to.
5. Shared spaces
- What others see. A message in a channel, a card comment or a whiteboard shape is visible to everyone who is in that server, project or board, including people who join later. Check where you are before you post.
- Server and project admins can edit membership, delete other people's messages and files, and hand a space on to someone else. They are people like you and not the operator. Their decisions about their space are theirs, within these rules.
- Direct messages are visible to the two people in them. They are stored on this server and are not end-to-end encrypted: the operator can technically reach them and may look only as the Privacy Policy allows. Anything you send can be copied by the person you sent it to.
- Voice and video. A call is peer to peer: the people in the room can see your network address, and each of them can record what they hear or see with their own tools. Do not record or stream anyone without their consent, and show or stream only what you have the right to show.
- Invite codes and links let anyone who has them join. Share them with care and replace a code if it leaks.
- Games. Play fair: no cheating tools, bots or collusion in game channels or on Umbra Arcade.
- Links in messages go to other sites, which we do not check.
6. AI features
- Models, personalities and agents are software. They are not people, do not have your interests at heart, and can be confidently wrong. Review what they give you.
- What you type, attach or have an agent read is sent to the model set for that conversation, which may be a server run by us or a service run by someone else. Do not give a model something you could not give to its operator.
- Do not try to get a model, a personality or a tool to produce content that Section 2 or 3 forbids, or to ignore the limits we set. Keep clear of other people's secrets when asking a model to work with files or accounts.
- Do not rely on a model's output for anything that has legal or serious effects on a person without a human checking it.
- Anything an AI personality says in Shade is generated by AI, and replies when someone mentions it. Treat it as you would any bot.
7. Agents, tools and approvals
- An agent can list, read, search and write files and run commands, within an allow-list and limits that administrators set. A call that the rules do not already allow waits in the approval queue until a person decides.
- You are responsible for what you approve. "Always allow" and any mode that stops asking remove a safety check. Use them only where you accept what an agent might do.
- Link a folder to a project only if you own it or are allowed to share it with that project's members and agents.
- Do not try to loosen or bypass the tool security limits, or to trick an agent into acting outside them.
8. Your own computer
Some features, including My machine, My computer tools and Set up this computer, let the site work with the computer you are sitting at. They run on your own machine and ask your permission there. You must only use them on a machine you own or are authorised to use. Read each prompt before you accept it, only run installers you got from this site while signed in, and remember that what you allow runs with your computer's access, not ours. We are not responsible for what runs there, or for changes to your machine that you approve.
9. Personal access tokens
A token acts as you and can do everything its owner could do in the sections it covers. Treat it like a password, do not put it in public code or share it, and revoke it if it leaks. We may rate-limit or revoke tokens.
10. Reporting and what we may do
- To report something, tell a server admin if it is in their space, or contact us: an administrator of this server (the people with the Admin role). Please say where it is and why it breaks the rules.
- For a copyright complaint, send your name and contact details, what the work is, where it appears on the site, a statement that you are or act for the owner and that the use is not authorised, and that your information is accurate. We may remove the content and tell the person who posted it.
- We may remove content, limit a feature, suspend or ban an account, and where the law requires, pass information to the authorities. Decisions are ours, but you can ask us to look at one again.
- Users who repeatedly infringe other people's rights will lose their accounts.
11. Changes
We may change this agreement as described in the Terms of Service. The date at the top shows when it last changed.
